Technical information

  • maps that mobyMAP uses are not images, they are stored in a vector-based data format which makes them much smaller
  • these types of maps are produced in a special application called mobyMAP Editor and is entirely our product
  • the vector-based format is reponsible for the small map size (a map containing 900 objects = 10kb)
  • this small map size makes it possible for mobyMAP to be run on different kinds of devices, even those with small memory sizes
  • it is very simple to add new objects and street types into the mobyMAP vector-based data format

Platform

The platform that runs mobyMAP Engine is Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME), and the device profile is MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile) version 1.0.

JAVA technology makes it possible for mobyMAP to be easily ported to other devices, for instance handheld PCs.
